New CHANGES😎 NewZealand🇳🇿 from Nov, 3 2025
A new government plan to support international education growth, announced in July 2025, will see its immigration changes take effect this November.
As part of the International Education Going for Growth Plan, we are changing some immigration rules to help the country grow in a sustainable way, attract more international students, keep education standards high, and manage immigration risks.
On Monday 3 November 2025, we will:
increase the number of hours eligible students can work while you have a student visa, from 20 to 25 hours a week
extend eligibility for in-study work rights to all tertiary students on approved exchange or Study Abroad programmes, including 1-semester courses
clarify that if you change your education provider or lower your level of study, in most cases you will need to apply for a new student visa, not just a variation of conditions
increase the number of hours eligible holders of dependent child visitor visas and Skilled Migrant Category Interim Visas can work while on their visa, from 20 to 25 hours a week.
