New Zealand Refugee Advisory Panel (NZRAP) is looking for new members for the 2025 to 2027 term as the inaugural term comes to an end.

In 2022, the first NZRAP was established with an aim to provide New Zealand’s refugee community the ability to have a voice on matters that directly affect them. The panel is a forum to have meaningful participation in the development of policies and strategies.

Could you be the next NZRAP panel member?

NZRAP is seeking people with collective skills and experiences for the 2025 to 2027 term who will enable collaborative engagements with government decision-makers and policy developers on matters impacting refugees in New Zealand.

This is an opportunity to influence refugee policy, engage with government agencies, and advocate for Meaningful Refugee Participation in decision-making at national and global levels.

NZRAP is looking for individuals who:

  • have lived experience of forced displacement (for example, held refugee status, sought asylum, or resettled in New Zealand)
  • have leadership or community organising experience in a refugee-led or refugee-serving organisation
  • are engaged in refugee policy discussions and advocacy networks
  • can commit at least 10 hours per month for 2 years
  • have strong English communication skills (reading, writing, and discussions)
  • bring expertise in areas such as gender, education, economic inclusion, protection, resettlement, research, or law and policy.

How to apply

Applications open on Monday 24 March and close on Sunday 28 April 2025.

You will need to:

  • complete a skills-based application form (no CV required)
  • submit 2 letters of recommendation focusing on skills and experience
  • submit a Values and Approach Statement (reviewed only if shortlisted)
  • shortlisted applicants will be invited for interviews between 12 May 2025 and 16 May 2025.
