The requirement for an NZeTA aims to promote a secure and efficient border management process for New Zealand and ensure consistency in immigration settings. It also enables Immigration New Zealand to have advance notice of visa-waiver travellers, enabling better management of any immigration concerns.

Carriers or their representatives can request Crew ETAs (Electronic Travel Authority) on behalf of their crew heading to New Zealand using the Batch ETA system.

We accept requests to use the Batch ETA system from:

  • cruise companies
  • airlines
  • manning agents
  • concessionaires, and
  • cargo ship operators.

If you are a crew member and need to get a Crew ETA, ask your employer or their representative to request one for you.

It’s important that all crew members of a cargo ship or a foreign ship authorised under the Maritime Transport Act 1994 to carry costal cargo have the correct ETA. This includes crew who are flying into New Zealand to join a ship. Carriers or their representatives must request a Crew ETA through the Batch ETA system, not the NZeTA website or app.

Carriers who do not obtain ETAs for their crew could face infringement notices and crew or passengers will arrive unlawfully in New Zealand leading to costs and delays.

A Crew ETA costs NZD $17.00 which is paid by the carrier or their representative.

It is valid for up to 5 years. It is no longer valid if a crew member’s employment ends before 5 years are up.

Most Crew ETA requests are processed within 72 hours.
